Exclusive: Inside the NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak — Investigators Allege NTA Subject Experts Passed Questions on Chits, Marked NCERT Paragraphs as Delhi Court Speeds Up Trial
The investigation into the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak has entered a critical phase after investigators claimed that individuals associated with the question-setting process leaked portions of the examination through handwritten notes and carefully marked paragraphs from NCERT textbooks. According to material presented before the court, the alleged conspiracy was designed to give paying candidates targeted preparation rather than distributing the entire question paper, making the leak more difficult to detect.
Investigators allege that confidential questions were copied onto small handwritten slips, while specific NCERT textbook passages were highlighted to indicate the exact areas from which questions would appear. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) believes these clues were circulated through a network of intermediaries connected to coaching operators and candidates. Authorities are examining whether the leak originated from individuals entrusted with preparing or handling examination content.
The case has significantly widened beyond allegations of paper circulation. The CBI’s probe is focusing on the complete chain of events—from question preparation and secure storage to transmission, financial transactions, and the role of alleged middlemen. Investigators have already filed charges against multiple accused, arguing that the conspiracy involved coordinated planning and insider access rather than an isolated breach.
Meanwhile, the designated fast-track court in Delhi has underscored the urgency of the proceedings. During a recent hearing, the presiding judge expressed displeasure when defence counsel arrived late, remarking that every minute in the case was important. The court’s observation reflects the judiciary’s intention to conduct day-to-day proceedings efficiently, considering the national importance of India’s largest medical entrance examination and the anxiety among lakhs of students.
In another significant development, three accused have requested permission to voluntarily undergo polygraph (lie detector) and brain mapping examinations, claiming the tests would help establish their innocence and assist the investigation. The Delhi court sought the CBI’s response on the plea, including its legal maintainability and investigative necessity, before deciding whether such tests should be permitted.
The CBI has informed the court that its investigation has already uncovered substantial documentary and digital evidence, while defence lawyers contend that additional scientific examinations could strengthen transparency in the probe. The court has reserved orders on aspects of the plea after hearing submissions from both sides.
The alleged leak has once again placed the National Testing Agency (NTA) under intense public scrutiny. NEET is one of India’s most competitive examinations, with millions of aspirants competing each year for a limited number of medical seats. Any breach of examination confidentiality has far-reaching consequences, affecting not only admissions but also public confidence in the country’s examination system.
As the investigation progresses, the fast-track court is expected to examine forensic evidence, witness testimonies, digital communications, and financial records to determine whether the alleged insider network operated from within the examination ecosystem.
