Retiring MP High Court Judge Avanindra Kumar Singh Pledges ₹1.01 Crore GPF to PM CARES, Body to Be Donated for Science
Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has announced that he will donate his entire General Provident Fund (GPF) retirement payout to the PM CARES Fund following his retirement from the Bench. The amount has been reported at approximately ₹1.01 crore, with some reports describing the expected payout as about ₹1.1 crore.
Justice Singh made the announcement during his farewell function on September 17, marking the conclusion of his judicial career. He said that, according to the official calculation, he expected to receive around ₹1 crore and ₹1 lakh from his GPF account and pledged to donate the entire amount to PM CARES for what he described as nation-building.
“After retirement today, I will begin a new chapter in my life,” Justice Singh said, adding that he intended to continue contributing to society from a new platform. He linked the decision to his broader belief that service to society involves caring for others and contributing to the welfare of the wider community.
The retiring judge also disclosed another significant decision. He and his wife, Indira Singh, have pledged to donate their bodies to a medical college after their deaths so that they can be used for scientific and medical education. Justice Singh said the body-donation registration had been completed two days before his retirement.
Justice Singh specifically credited his wife with suggesting both initiatives. He said she had supported him throughout his career and had proposed donating their bodies for scientific purposes as well as contributing his entire GPF retirement savings to PM CARES.
His retirement marks the end of a judicial career spanning roughly 36–37 years. Justice Singh entered the Madhya Pradesh Judicial Service as a Civil Judge Class-II on May 31, 1990, and subsequently served in several judicial and administrative positions across the state.
Among his assignments were positions in district courts across Madhya Pradesh, Principal Judge of the Family Court at Jabalpur, District and Sessions Judge at Chhatarpur, Principal Registrar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and Principal District and Sessions Judge at Dhar. He was elevated to the Madhya Pradesh High Court on May 1, 2023.
During his farewell address, Justice Singh reflected on the lessons of his long judicial career and recalled advice from a senior judge that a judge should not succumb to criticism and should avoid handling a case when personal anger or affection could affect his state of mind.
Justice Singh’s retirement announcement therefore combined two separate commitments: directing his accumulated GPF retirement benefit toward PM CARES and making his and his wife’s bodies available for scientific purposes after death. He described the initiatives not as an end to public service, but as the beginning of another chapter of contribution to society.
