Rahul Gandhi Addresses Student Event in Prayagraj, Says Youth Must Challenge a System That Denies Them Jobs
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed students at the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Prayagraj on Saturday, August 8, focusing his remarks on unemployment, recruitment examinations, paper leaks and the wider difficulties faced by young people seeking education and government jobs.
The event at KP Ground came amid heightened political attention over student issues in Uttar Pradesh and across the country. Gandhi used the gathering to position students and young people at the centre of his political message, arguing that their potential represents one of India’s greatest strengths.
Gandhi told the gathering that Indian youth have capabilities that are unmatched globally. He contrasted the country’s large young population and its potential with what he described as a system that is failing to provide adequate opportunities for education, employment and economic advancement.
A major focus of the interaction was the frustration surrounding competitive examinations. Students at the event raised concerns about recruitment delays, examination irregularities and paper leaks, issues that have become a recurring source of anger among government-job aspirants.
Gandhi urged students not to accept these problems as inevitable. He called on young people to confront what he described as systemic problems while maintaining a non-violent approach.

Students have increasingly demanded timely examinations, transparent recruitment procedures and stronger action against those responsible for examination-related irregularities.
The political significance of the Prayagraj event was heightened by developments before Gandhi’s arrival. The venue for the programme had initially faced uncertainty after the trust managing the ground withdrew permission, prompting Congress leaders to seek an alternative arrangement. Permission was subsequently granted with conditions.
The controversy also generated a poster war in Prayagraj. Posters supporting Gandhi appeared alongside material criticising him over student-related issues, adding another layer of political confrontation around the visit.
For Congress, the event provides an opportunity to deepen its outreach among students and young voters by focusing on unemployment and examination-related grievances. The party has increasingly sought to frame these issues as evidence of a broader failure in governance and employment policy.
For students, however, the concerns extend beyond political messaging. The uncertainty surrounding recruitment examinations can mean years of preparation followed by delays, cancellations or legal disputes, leaving many aspirants uncertain about their career prospects.
Gandhi’s Prayagraj address therefore combined a political attack on the government with a broader appeal to young Indians. His message was that students should move beyond individual frustration and collectively demand greater transparency, employment opportunities and accountability.
The event also illustrates how student and recruitment issues are becoming an increasingly important political battleground.
