Education Ministry Shake-Up Seen as Strategic Blow to RSS Influence, Debate Intensifies After Pradhan’s Exit
The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has triggered a wider political debate extending far beyond the immediate controversy over examination paper leaks. While the government has described the move as an act of accountability following months of student unrest, political observers and critics argue that the change carries deeper implications because education has long been regarded as one of the most strategically important ministries for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its broader ideological agenda.
Pradhan stepped down after weeks of nationwide youth-led protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, particularly the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. The demonstrations, which spread across multiple states, eventually compelled the government to accept his resignation after sustained public pressure and growing political opposition. The protests marked one of the rare occasions in recent years when a Union Cabinet minister resigned following mass street mobilisations led primarily by students.
The political significance of the resignation has been amplified by commentary suggesting that control over education has historically been central to the RSS’s long-term ideological objectives.
