Supreme Court Declares September 11 Holiday For BRICS Summit; November 28 To Be Working Saturday Instead
The Supreme Court has declared Friday, September 11, 2026, a holiday for the Court and its Registry in view of arrangements for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit being held in New Delhi. The decision was approved by the Full Court and notified by the Supreme Court’s Administrative General Branch.
The Registry will also remain closed on Saturday, September 12. The holiday arrangement follows a September 3 Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training directing the closure of Central Government offices in Delhi in connection with the BRICS Summit.
To compensate for the lost working day, the Supreme Court has declared Saturday, November 28, 2026, a full working day. The Registry will accordingly function on that Saturday, making it an exceptional working day in the Court’s calendar.
The move comes as Delhi prepares for the high-profile international summit, with extensive security arrangements, movement restrictions and traffic-management measures expected around the capital. The 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
For advocates and litigants, the change means that September 11 and 12 should be marked as non-working days for the Supreme Court and its Registry, while November 28 will operate as a regular working day under the compensatory arrangement.
