India Condemns Pakistan’s Afghanistan Air Strikes as ‘Blatant Act of Aggression’, Warns of Threat to Regional Peace
MEA Says Pakistan’s Military Action Violates Afghan Sovereignty; Civilian Casualties Spark Diplomatic Outrage
India has strongly condemned Pakistan’s recent air strikes inside Afghanistan, describing the attacks as a “blatant act of aggression” and a serious violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty. In a sharply worded statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the strikes pose a direct threat to regional peace and stability.
According to the MEA, Pakistan’s military action targeted residential areas in Afghanistan, reportedly killing at least 36 civilians, including women and children, while injuring more than 160 others. India said such attacks cannot be justified and urged respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.
The Indian government stated that the strikes reflect a recurring pattern in which Pakistan attempts to externalize its internal security challenges instead of addressing them domestically. New Delhi emphasized that cross-border military operations undermine regional security and increase instability across South Asia.
The latest escalation follows Pakistan’s claim that its military targeted militant hideouts across the border after a series of terrorist attacks on Pakistani security forces. Afghan authorities, however, rejected those claims, asserting that the strikes hit civilian homes and residential settlements rather than militant infrastructure.
The Taliban-led Afghan administration has strongly protested the air strikes, calling them an assault on Afghan sovereignty and warning of possible retaliation. Kabul has also accused Islamabad of violating international norms by carrying out military operations inside Afghan territory.
The renewed violence highlights deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where border tensions have intensified since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Despite previous diplomatic efforts and ceasefire initiatives, clashes and cross-border accusations have continued to strain bilateral ties.
India’s statement is being viewed as one of its strongest public criticisms of Pakistan’s military actions in recent years. By characterizing the strikes as a direct threat to regional peace, New Delhi has reinforced its long-standing position that disputes must be resolved through dialogue while respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries.
The international community is expected to closely monitor developments as concerns grow over the possibility of further military escalation along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Analysts warn that continued hostilities could worsen the humanitarian situation, destabilize the wider region, and complicate ongoing counter-terrorism and diplomatic efforts.
